A man looking through the window of a gondola at Lake Tahoe belowTake a ride on a cableway to heaven and indulge in gorgeous, aerial views of the lake as you travel 2.3 miles (3.7 km) up Heavenly Mountain overlooking Tahoe’s southern shore.

The gondola first stops at an observation deck—perched 3,000 feet (914 m) above the lake—that serves up an incredible panaroma of the Jewel of the Sierra.

Then it ascends further to Tamarack Lodge, a gateway to a host of fun activities at 9,150 feet (2,789 m), including hiking, zip lining, tubing and mountain biking in summer; skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing and dance party happy hours in winter.

Tickets $40-$50 round-trip (15-20 minute ride each way)

Departs 9am-5pm in summer; 9am-4pm in winter

During ski season (mid Nov-mid Apr), the gondola ride is included in the price of an all-day lift ticket, which can be purchased online at a discounted rate of $100-$135+

In winter, you can catch a ‘ski bus’ from San Francisco to ski resorts in Tahoe for $40-$140+ via vendors online

On-site lodging is available at hotels in Heavenly Village, near the gondola, for $120-$180+
