The Mission burrito is cheap, incredibly filling and tailor-made for on-the-go eating.Oh, and there is a good chance that it will be the biggest burrito you have ever wrapped your hands around.
The Mission burrito is a product of California’s produce fields, where in the mid-1900s, overstuffed and incredibly filling burritos were served to Mexican migrant workers. These gargantuan burritos soon made their way to taquerías in San Francisco’s poor and heavily Hispanic Mission district in the 1960s.
The classic Mission burrito is an oversized flour tortilla jam-packed with rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, salsa, guacamole and pico de gallo; and wrapped in aluminum foil.
Though some people are able to wolf one down in one ‘sitting,’ more than likely, at the halfway mark, you will have to save the rest for dinner or a late night snack!
Taqueria El Farolito
El Farolito is an uber-popular hole-in-the-wall that has been serving up delicious Mission burritos since 1982.
You can get yours stuffed with a choice of meats including chicken, al pastor (marinated pork), carnitas (deep fried pork), chorizo (sausage), carne asada (steak) and even shrimp.
