The Neptune Pool at Hearst Castle during twilightWaltz back in time to the golden years of American opulence, and experience what it was like to attend a soiree at Hearst Castle in the 1930s.

Built in the early 1900s, the Castle and its grounds were the La Cuesta Encantada (“Enchanted Hill”) upon which publishing magnate, William Randolph Hearst, commissioned architect Julia Morgan—the first female architect licensed in California—to build a 165-room castle replete with luxurious furnishings; a venerable art collection; and 127 acres (51 ha) of gardens, terraces and gorgeous pools.

Every spring and fall (Mar-May & Oct-Dec), on Friday and Saturday evenings, the Castle hosts an evening tour during which you can watch and interact with actors dressed in period attire, whilst taking in the grandeur of the Castle’s Main Library, social rooms, bedrooms, pools and gardens.

      100-Minute Tour $36, reservable online

5:50pm-7:30pm; but arrive 30 minutes early because, after you park, you have to take a 15-minute shuttle from the Visitors Center up to the Castle’s grand entrance

During the tour, you will walk 0.75 mi (1.2 km) and climb approximately 303 stairs, so wear comfortable shoes. An accessible tour is also available.
