There are a number of hiking trails that will take you to the rear of the Hollywood Sign. You should know, however, that you will not be able to get within arms length as the Sign is fenced in, guarded and under constant surveillance.Yet, you may find that the views of LA along the way are well worth the climb.
Via the Wonder View Trail, you can hike 3 miles (4.8 km) roundtrip to the rear of the Sign. The trail is rough in places and boasts a 850-foot (259 m) elevation gain.
Be sure to bring bottled water and refrain from hiking in the heat of mid-day. And, if you can, go on a super clear and sunny day, when views along the way will be at their most stellar.
How to Go…
Drive to Lake Hollywood Dr & Wonder View Dr. Park on Lake Hollywood Dr (permissible 5am-7pm); then walk east on Wonder View Dr to the trailhead.
