For a communal jaunt along the Lost Coast Trail with other nature lovers like yourself, spring for a 5-day group tour with REI Adventures.Not only will you have an experienced backpacker as your guide, but you can forego the stress of driving on narrow, steep and windy roads to and from the coastal trailheads, as well as having to bring your own tent, food for most meals, bear canister and cooking supplies.
The guided tour includes 4 days on the North Coast Trail (from Mattole Beach to Black Sands Beach) and a bonus hike in an ancient redwood forest along the Avenue of the Giants. It is offered once a month from April thru Sept/Oct.
The tour begins in Sacramento, the state capital, which is a 1.5 hour drive northeast from San Francisco.
