Early bird wristbands available in early June; the rest in early Jan. They sell out in a heartbeat, so be sure to subscribe to their enewsletter; and purchase your tickets (up to 2) the second they are released online.
The best place to stay is at the on-site campground ($113+ for the weekend) where you will be close to the action 24/7. Campsites must be reserved online in advance.
You second best option is to book lodging along the VMT hotel shuttle route to the festival, that way you can eschew the stress of driving to and fro the festival grounds every day. 3-day shuttle passes are $75+.
