Father and son riding bikes across the Golden Gate BridgeBiking across the Golden Gate Bridge is the best of both worlds. You can navigate the entire Bridge more quickly and with less effort, whilst still being able to stop to snap photos and take in the view.

      When & Where to Ride

Cyclists are afforded free, 24 hour access to the bridge, but are required to ride on either the east sidewalk (shared with pedestrians) or the west sidewalk (bikes only), depending on the season and time of day:

Cyclists press the "buzzer" located near the closed security gate. Weekends and Holidays • 5:00 am to 6:30 pm: WEST sidewalk • 6:30 pm to 5:00 am: EAST sidewalk, via remotely-controlled security gates located at both ends of the EAST sidewalk. Sidewalk Hours = Pacific Daylight Time, March 12 – November 4, 2017 Weekdays, except Holidays • 5:00 am to 3:30 pm: EAST sidewalk • 3:30 pm to 9:00 pm: WEST sidewalk • 9:00 pm to 5:00 am: EAST sidewalk, via remotely-controlled security gates located at both ends of the EAST sidewalk. On U.S. holidays, Sat-Sun bike access hours are observed.

For late night access to the east sidewalk, press the buzzer located near the closed security gate at each end of the bridge and a security guard will buzz you in.

On weekdays, 5am-3:30pm, when cyclists and pedestrians share the bridge’s east sidewalk, cyclists must yield to pedestrians, pass on the left, and slow down when approaching congested or blocked areas of the walkway.
