      The unique bell tower at the San Diego MissionStep back into California history during a visit to the Spanish mission from which the city and county of San Diego draw their name.

      Founded in 1769, it was the first of the 21 Spanish missions that were built when Southern California was under Spanish rule (1769-1823). And it is still an active parish today.
