Founded in 1933, San Francisco Ballet is the oldest professional ballet company in the United States.

It was also the first to perform the full-stage version of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker in the States in 1944, which it still presents every December to the delight of kids and adults alike and with a unique local flavor, setting the tale in San Francisco during the early 1900s.
